Recently, I noticed a premium Spanish hotel: the reviews were excellent, but the gallery looked yellowish, distorted, and the cover photo didn\u2019t capture any of the atmosphere. Meanwhile, on Instagram, guests\u2019 and influencers\u2019 photos suggested a completely different level of quality. Some looked low-quality, others were over-edited. The immediate question popped into my mind: \u201cSo, which one is real?\u201d Because of this visual dissonance, I ultimately <strong>didn\u2019t book<\/strong>\u2014and I\u2019m probably not alone in that decision. Online, first impressions are formed incredibly fast: visual appeal can be decided in as little as <strong>50 ms<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/01449290500330448?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taylor &amp; Francis Online<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nngroup.com\/articles\/first-impressions-human-automaticity\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nielsen Norman Group<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The numbers: a good photo is not (just) beautiful, it\u2019s also business<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether we like it or not, photos have a visible power. Nothing proves this better than the statistics\u2014so here are a few convincing examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Tripadvisor<\/strong>: even <strong>1 photo<\/strong> brings <strong>+138%<\/strong> more user engagement, while with <strong>100+ photos<\/strong> you can expect <strong>+151%<\/strong> more engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">The likelihood of a booking inquiry is <strong>+225%<\/strong> compared to pages without photos. <a href=\"https:\/\/ir.tripadvisor.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/responding-reviews-online-drives-booking-inquiries-tripadvisor?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ir.tripadvisor.com<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.phocuswire.com\/TripAdvisor-shares-top-on-site-engagement-strategies-for-hotels?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PhocusWire<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/hotelsmag.com\/news\/what-engages-consumers-on-tripadvisor\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HOTELSMag.com<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Cover photo<\/strong>: in the case of luxury hotels, cover photos that convey <strong>hedonic value<\/strong> (experience, desire, atmosphere) <strong>significantly increase click intention<\/strong> in multiple controlled experiments. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0278431924001397?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ScienceDirect<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Research shows that <strong>light\/time of day<\/strong>, <strong>colors<\/strong>, <strong>human presence<\/strong>, and <strong>perspective<\/strong> directly influence booking intention; for example, human presence in lobby photos helps, but in room photos it requires caution\u2014it\u2019s context-dependent. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41599-023-01529-w?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nature<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0278431920300979?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ScienceDirect<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What counts as a bad hotel photo for a premium hotel (and in general)?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Yellowish white balance<\/strong> \u2192 when the photo\u2019s color looks so yellow it feels like it was taken in a retro pub, giving a \u201ccheap\u201d impression in a premium space.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Distorted perspective, crooked lines<\/strong> \u2192 a manipulated sense of space where a small room is made to look huge, only for the guest to realize upon arrival that the wide-angle shot was misleading and the room is actually tiny, barely fitting their suitcase.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Visual noise<\/strong> \u2192 cluttered foreground, cables hanging into the frame, too much d\u00e9cor, and an overload of colors and patterns that make the overall image chaotic and unappealing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Empty or wrong moment<\/strong> \u2192 it\u2019s essential to know which spaces benefit from human presence and where focusing on an object gives the most value to a photo, without taking away from the atmosphere. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41599-023-01529-w?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nature<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0278431920300979?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ScienceDirect<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Hedonic absence<\/strong> \u2192 the cover photo doesn\u2019t show \u201cwhy it\u2019s good to be here\u201d;
